It's Not Supposed to Snow (Now That's News)!

Don't be afraid to read on, the forecast for the rest of the week is good.

It’s been more than a week since any real snow has fallen in Morristown, making even school children, who don’t want to be stuck in class until June 30, happy. So how long will this dry spell last? And when will the massive mounds of very dirty snow melt away? Here are today’s 5 things you need to know about the weather:

  1. You need to know it’s not supposed to snow today! Yes, it’s true, two Tuesdays in a row without snow, or at least that’s what the weather forecasters are saying. On the plus side, the forecast calls for sunshine today. However, the temperature is only supposed to reach a high of 34 degrees, which won’t do too much for the piles of snow that are nearly burying some of the meters around the Green. (Although buried parking meters probably wouldn’t upset too many drivers.)
  2. You need to know it’s not supposed to snow tomorrow either. Party cloudy is the forecast, but the temperature is supposed to climb up into the 40s, and reach as high as 49, which should prompt some melting, although when it so much snow is compacted up for so long it can take a long time to disappear.
  3. You need to know it’s not even supposed to snow on Thursday. And temperatures are expected to soar to 54 degrees. Despite the partly cloudy skies, the warmth should make for some healthy melting, but watch for stealthy deep puddles that can swallow and soak your shoes, feet, ankles (hopefully you won't find any deeper than that).
  4. You need to know, hard as it may be to believe, it’s not supposed to snow on Friday. Can the kids really manage another full week in school? Well, almost a full week. Morris School District students have a half day for staff development. The highest temperatures are forecast for Friday, all the way up to 62. So plan on shirtsleeves as you stroll past the hopefully shrinking piles of snow.
  5. This is getting repetitive, but you need to know that it is not supposed to snow on Saturday. This is long-range forecast territory, but keep your fingers crossed. It’s supposed to get colder again, back down to 42, but two-to-three good warm days straight should widen the streets and sidewalks, making it easier to navigate and enjoy Morristown.
