'Alfresco in the Garden' Returns for Sophomore Event

The Grow it Green Morristown benefit event set for 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25.

What could possibly be better than having a 1949 REO Speedwagon converted into a traveling pizza restaurant?

Having it serve pizzas with ingredients growing around the dinner table, of course.

Grow it Green Morristown will hold its second annual "Alfresco in the Garden" fundraiser, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Urban Farm at Lafayette, located behind the , on Hazel Street. Proceeds will go toward maintaining and improving the farm, which has for about two years been growing produce on a piece of an underutilized playground, providing classes for students in the Morris School District, as well as holding regular "Urban Farm Stands" for the community throughout the growing season. Grow it Green also maintains the , which is currently in its third season.

The main course, pizza, will be made by Nomad Pizza Company, of Hopewell Borough, Mercer County. The restaurant has a location in Hopewell, but much of their cooking happens on the road, in a converted truck. Just-picked produce from the Urban Farm will be used in the pizza creations.

Grow it Green Morristown will present "Alfresco in the Garden," at 4 p.m., Sept. 25 at the Urban Farm, 31 Hazel St., behind the Lafayette Learning Center. Heavy rain cancels. Tickets are $75, with proceeds going toward maintenance and improvements for the Urban Farm. Advance ticket sales only.
