Elevator Malfunction Strands Passenger

Morristown Parking Authority able to lower elevator manually.

One elevator rider had an unexpected delay Thursday morning when one of the elevators in the Bank Street parking deck stopped working mid-lift.

Morristown Parking Authority crew, with assistance from the Morristown Fire Department, were able to lower the elevator manually and get the passenger out without incident or injury.

Pat Geary, with the Morristown Parking Authority, said a cause for the elevator break down had not yet been determined, but the elevator had been closed off until technicians could come and address the problem. Once technicians give the OK, the fire department can then allow the elevator to reopen.

"This is the first time this has happened in a long time," Geary said.

Update: This is a correction to a previous report that had said the passenger had been rescued through the roof of the elevator, which was incorrect.
