'Distant Thunder' Film Screening and Discussion
Where/When: From noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Bernards Township Public Library, 32 S. Maple Ave., Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Part of series of film screenings with Dr. Kalyan Ray, English Professor at County College of Morris. Film buffs get to feed their minds and also bring a snack or lunch to enjoy.

A Concert to Benefit the Market Street Mission
When/Where
: Friday, 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Morris Plains.
Why Go
: A good cause and plenty of performances: Skip Yingling and The PCMP Band, Jim DiPaolo and Monica Trogani, Erica and Julia Rossetti, Morris Plains Summer Theater Program Cast of Godspell, Danielle Becht, Market Street Mission Singers and more.
Cost
: Monetary Donations for the Market Street Mission will be accepted at the door to offset damage from Hurricane Irene

When/Where:
Gates open at 8 a.m., first race at 1 p.m. at Moorland Farms off Route 202 in Far Hills on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Why Go:
Considered the social event of the season, the steeplechase races are a chance to tailgate, picnic and meet friends. The races attract about 50,000 people each year, with social strata climbing the higher you stake your spot going up the hill. The race also benefits Somerset Medical Center in general, and the Steeplechase Cancer Center in particular.

Saturday Morning Road Ride From Marty's
