'Ingredients' Looks at Local Food Movements

Free showing of documentary set for 6:30 p.m. at Unity Charter School.

Do you care about where your food comes from? Are you not sure but want to know more? Then, a film that takes a look at the crisis-like situation our industrialized food system is currently facing and how local farmers and chefs are serving as the unlikely heroes in a reverse course.

"The Town of Morristown’s Office of Sustainability welcomes the opportunity, through our involvement in the Sustainable Morristown coalition, to participate in these types of collaborative educational programs," said Paul Miller, of Sustainable Morristown. "They provide an opportunity to help inform and support our residents, schools and businesses desire to do their part in enabling more sustainable lifestyles. The food choices we each make translates into one of the biggest impacts we have on the economic, environmental and social well-being of our community and planet. The Ingredients film should inspire us with stories of success from around the country that we can look to replicate here in our own community."

The eye-opening and informative film, Ingredients, will be shown on Wednesday, July 18th at 6:30 PM at Unity Charter School located at 1 Evergreen Place in [Morris Township.] The film documents the current state of crisis the industrialized food industry has created in the U.S and around the world, and highlights the unlikely heroes leading us back to a healthier, more sustainable food system – the local farmers and chefs.

As the trailer proclaims at http://ingredientsfilm.com/, “There is no culture in the world that spends less on food and more on healthcare than the United States. ... It is a painfully obvious truth. You can pay the doctor or you can pay the farmer.”  The food system is broken and needs to be fixed.

“Shipped from ever-greater distances, we have literally lost sight of where our food comes from and in the process we've lost a vital connection to our local community and to our health. Ingredients illustrates how people around the country are working to revitalize that connection.”
