Nearly 1,000 Lose Power Late Tuesday

JCP&L yet to determine cause for outage shortly before midnight.

Those still awake in the Morristown and Morris Township area Tuesday night had bedtime handed to them anyway when 1,000 people lost power shortly before midnight.

JCP&L Area Manager Jim Markey said approximately 913 customers in the Morristown area lost power at 11:30 p.m. Several Patch readers in the area of James Street said they had lost power.

A "Stage Restoration" was conducted, bringing power back for 849 of those customers by 12:41 a.m., Markey said.

The remaining customers had power restored just before 1 a.m., he said.

As for cause, "an investigation continues," Markey said. "Nothing has been determined yet."

We did. I noticed because our oven's clock demanded I reset the time. It seemed to only go out for a few minutes though.

The cause, they're cheap bastards that spend nothing on maintenance. They have determined it's more economical to simply fix things as they fail. Keystone Cops of power delivery. Just down the street they replaced a fuse to bring our chunk of James back up. Something apparently happened that popped a bunch of fuses, which kind of makes sense given the "oh god, please don't toast all my electronics" surges that were happening a few minutes before everything went dark. I hate these people. So lame; "we don't know why" either means they honestly don't, or they do realize it's just poor infrastructure failing and don't want to say that because it's bad PR. Not sure which is worse (although as a tech sector worker, the former scares me more, technology != magic).
