Severe Storm Warning, Flood Watch

Watch in effect with potential for flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a statewide Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9 p.m. tonight, with the main threat expected to be flooding due to heavy rainfall.

In the Morristown area, the NWS calls for showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon, with some storms severe. Large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning are possible, according to the alert.

Tonight there will be showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 a.m. Some storms could be severe, again with large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

Storms may yield rainfall in excess of two inches in less than an hour. Additional storms may result in flash flooding through much of the state, with rain leaving heavily travelled highways and urban areas especially vulnerable to flooding, according to the NWS.

Residents are urged to take precaution to prepare for possible flooding.
