Supplemental Information: Five Things, From A to Fig Trees

In honor of The Health Shoppe's class on supplements tonight.

Supplements: They sure can be tricky. There are so many options at so many price points. Multi-vitamins? Flax seed oil? Fish oil? What's a health-conscious person to do?

That is the basis of a discussion at 6:30 p.m. tonight at The Health Shoppe, and the impetus for the structure of our "5 Things" for today:

  1. You Need to Know About Vitamin Board of (A)djustment: Also known as the Zoning Board, these are the folks who can decide whether an area is more appropriate for offices or homes. They meet at Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. A Vitamin A deficiency can lead to dry eyes and, in extreme cases, blindness. So, you might want to consider not turning up your nose at foods like chicken livers, which are extremely high in the nutrient.
  2. You Need to Know About Vitamin B: The owner of Bill's Figs, of Hunterdon County, will be speaking at the Home Garden Club of Morristown meeting at Frelinghuysen Arboretum, at 1 p.m. Do you know what vitamin figs are high in? Well, if you need to ask ...
  3. You Need to Know About Vitamin (C)handelier: Rescheduled from last week, will be lowering its "Skinny Sister" chandelier for spring cleaning from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Purchased in 1955 from the Vanderbilt-Twombly in an estate sale at what eventually became the College at Florham, Madison, the careful cleaning will be conducted over the next several weeks. Enjoy a glass of orange juice, rich in Vitamin C, before heading over.
  4. You Need to Know About Vitamin D: No cute connection to the vitamin type and an activity, but do you know where one can get Vitamin D from in abundance? Sunshine. And, with clocks moving forward this past weekend, The Running Company's weekly all-abilities run, at 6:15 p.m., will be enjoyed amidst healthy rays ... except, it's raining today. Oh, well, there's always supplements.
  5. You Need to Know About Vitamin E: And, where does one get 25 percent of their daily value of this vitamin? In dry roasted almonds, which sells in bulk, so pick some up before you head to the supplement class. Remember, the supplement class is $20.
