Dougherty Declares Victory, Retains Seat as Mayor

Second term for the mayor looks assured according to the numbers being counted—and by the incumbent himself.

Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty has claimed victory in the general election, NJ.com reported. The Democrat predicted when the final numbers were counted and certified, it will show him with a "wide, wide margin" over his Independent and Republican challengers and ensure his re-election.

According to unofficial results from the Morris County, which do not include absentee and mailed ballots, showed 2,209 votes for Dougherty, 764 votes for Republican Richard Babcock and 277 votes for Independent Edward France.

The Morristown Town Council result is not in doubt, as Democrats Council President Michelle Dupree Harris, Councilwoman Toshiba Foster and Michael Elms had no opposition in Tuesday's election. Unofficially, Harris garnered 2,056 votes, there were 2,022 votes for Foster and Elms win 2,013 votes.
