Pastor Says Assemblyman's Remarks 'Racist and Insensitive'

In a few days we will go to the Polls again and it may appear that we don’t have any real options, but our vote should never be wasted. Morris County is unique in that we have a solid Republican majority in a State that has been left of center politically for the last twenty years. For the most part, I am well pleased with most of our elected officials even though I don’t agree with all of their positions. There is a genuine feeling that most of our Elected Officials are moved by compassion and common sense, putting our citizens and visitors before politics. However, there is one Elected Official that deserves a careful look.

Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll gives me pause and does not reflect the values of our County Leadership and quite frankly is out of step with where our Country stands on two key issues – Racism and Bullying. Regardless of Party affiliation, we simply cannot afford to ignore leaders who are insensitive and fail to embrace the human dignity of all people. Please give your attention to this matter as you consider your vote on Nov. 5.

Mr. Carroll’s Racist and Insensitive Remarks:

"If slavery was the price that a modern American's ancestors had to pay in order to make one an American, one should get down on one's knees every single day and thank the Lord that such price was paid."

Furthermore, Carroll posted his denigrating views toward women and minorities in a blog he kept until he became nominated for a judgeship (the NJ Bar Association declined to consider his nomination)*

"Eliminating departments such as Black Studies, Africana Studies, Women and Gender studies, etc., and replacing them with real scholarship - as opposed to "Introduction to Victimology and Political Correctness 101" - could save millions while, at the same time, ensuring that people who attend college actually receive an education."

Mr. Carroll was the ONLY “No” Vote on Anti-Bullying Legislation: The State Senate voted 30-0 and the Assembly 71-1. Governor Christie signed the Bill into law.

It is time to put God and Country first and Party second. Send a message on November 5th that we will not tolerate racist behavior or remarks of any kind.
