Special Sabbath Service with Rabbi Jeffrey Salkin, Director of Anti-Defamation League
Temple B’nai Or invites the public to a special Sabbath evening, Friday evening, October 19 at 7:30 pm, when the guest speaker will be Rabbi Jeffrey Salkin, Community Director of the Anti-Defamation League of New Jersey. His topic will be The Oldest Ism - Anti-Semitism. “Anti-Semitism is even older than Judaism itself,” says Rabbi Salkin. We will ask questions like ‘Is it still an issue in American life?’ and ‘How can we understand it and fight it?’” Rabbi Jeffrey Salkin is a noted Reform rabbi and activist whose writings have appeared in numerous publications. He has served in leadership positions within the Reform movement, Zionist organizations, and international Jewish organizations. He is perhaps best known for his bestselling book on bar and bat mitzvah:Putting God On The Guest List: How To Reclaim The Spiritual Meaning of Your Child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah, published by Jewish Lights. He has written many other books on such topics as Israel, spirituality, interfaith relations, and the role of men in Jewish life. His most recent book, now into its second printing, is Text Messages: A Torah Commentary for Teens.
Temple B’nai Or is happy to welcome Rabbi Salkin who comes to us in his new role as the New Jersey director of the ADL – the Anti-Defamation League. Since its founding in 1913, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has been the nation's premier civil rights/human relations agency. It fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defends democratic ideals and protects civil rights for all.
