Community Soup Kitchen Shares Its Story for Giving Tuesday

Morristown soup kitchen served more than 54,000 meals and gave away over 60 tons of food in 2012.

For Giving Tuesday, the Community Soup Kitchen is telling its story through the stories of the people it serves.

The Morristown nonprofit marked the altruistic cousin to retail-focused Black Friday and Cyber Monday by sending an e-mail blast leading to a video uploaded to YouTube in 2009 that's about six minutes long. The mini-documentary introduces viewers to a diverse group of individuals who, for one reason or another, have needed the CSK for assistance.

In addition to recounting the various services (the 2012 annual report offers another glimpse) the nonprofit provides to northern New Jersey, the video shows that misfortune can happen to anyone—and that those who have must give what they can to help. And that need is huge: CSK served more than 54,000 meals and gave away over 60 tons of food just last year.
