Whippany Park Helps Collinsville Celebrate Read Across America

Collinsville Child Care Center (Morristown, N.J.) celebrated Read Across America with help from students from the Whippany Park Developmental Program along with their teachers and peer partners on Friday March 7. The Whippany Park students read books and put on puppet shows with themes about friendship, acceptance and anti-bullying. The high schoolers read books such as The Rainbow Fish, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and One Fish, Two Fish, Read Fish, Blue Fish. Maria Camacho, Whippany Park lead Special Education teacher, said the visit to Collinsville helped her students practice their reading and socialization skills. She noted “We want to start teaching anti-bullying to the little children and the puppet shows are a good way to help them retain the message.” The high-schoolers and pre-schoolers have a special partnership and have future outings planned including a visit to the Mayo Performing Arts Center to see a play. Special thanks to everyone from Whippany Park and the Collinsville teaching staff, led by Bea Yuan, for a memorable morning.
