Parsippany Council Member Is Front Runner for Part-Time County Public Safety Position

Paul Carifi Jr., an experienced weapons instructor, is the lead candidate for a new 20-hour-per-week position as an assistant range master at the county's public safety training facility.

Carifi, who lost a bid for the Parsippany mayorship in the June Republican primary, has a long background in law enforcement. Last year, he retired after more than two decades with the Morris County Sheriff's Office. He is a certified range master and firearms instructor who spent 23 years teaching weapons classes to recruits at the county law enforcement academy. The article added that he is former  commander of the county Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team.

The hire of Carifi has been okayed by Morris County Freeholder Director Thomas Mastrangelo and Freeholder William “Hank” Lyon; it requires one more signature, that of Freeholder Douglas Cabana, who is the body's liaison to the county Department of Law & Public Safety, the article said. No salary for the 20-hour-per-week job has been revealed, and the Record reported that Morris County will not pay for any health benefits for the job or contribute to Carifi's  pension.
