NJ Roller Derby Wraps Up Great First Season With Victory

Check us out at www.njderby.com

Bringing Halloween to Morristown a little early this year, on Saturday Oct 27, the ladies of NJRD took to the track in the only attire fitting for these hardcore athletes: their bright yellow jerseys.  Guests and fans were encouraged to dress up in costumes and join in on the halloween festivities!

New Jersey Roller Derby finished their first season with a victory against the Hartford Wailers of Connecticut.  Ending their first season with two wins and 3 losses, Morristown's newest roller derby league is the newest force to be reckoned with on the track.

In a game that could've gone either way, the ladies of NJRD fought hard to get the lead during the first half and keep it.   At the end of the half,  NJRD was only ahead by one point, with a score of 96 - 95.  By keeping focus and maintaining game strategies, NJRD came back in the second half to secure a bigger lead and claim the win with a final score of 237 - 198.   Some big hits were given by NJRD's Xero Tolerance and Naughty Nessa.  Jammers Maulin Rouge and Shannanigunz earned most of NJRD's points with Maulin scoring 106 points and Gunz scoring 103 points.  MVP for NJRD was awarded to Shannanigunz.

While it was mostly fun and games, NJRD made a serious donation to the Family Promise of Morris County, an organization dedicated to ending homelessness in Morris County.  Several crates, including household cleaners, paper products and toiletries were donated to Family Promise.  Fans were also treated to sounds of the School of Rock Band, a rock band formed of current students of the Waldwick School of Rock.

A Saturday night of rockin' tunes, good deeds and great athleticism...not to mention some amazing Halloween costumes.  If you missed this game, you'll have to wait til next season.  But as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait!
