Doreen M. Cobbs, Morristown Social Worker, Dies at 59

Doreen Cobbs was known for her love of cooking and travel, her philosophy of life and her fabulous hats.

Doreen Marcia Cobbs of Morris Township died Dec. 5 at the age of 59, according to a notice on the website of the Rowe-Lanterman Home for Funerals in Morristown.

The Jamaican native emigrated to the U.S. at the age of eight, in 1962. She came to northern New Jersey and earned a bachelor's and master's degrees in social work, respectively, at Kean University in Union and New York University. She worked for the Exxon Corporation for nearly 17 years, eventually moving on to help those in need via the Manahan Village Community Center and Senior Housing complex on Ann Street in Morristown.

Married for 21 years to Gregory P. Cobbs, she was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Morristown, where she was active in the Youth Ministry.

Cobbs is remembered as someone who touched the lives of others through her compassion. She was known for her love of cooking and travel, her philosophy of life and her fabulous hats.

Doreen Cobbs is survived by her husband, mother Floris Rose Rochester, brothers Garth Anthony Rochester and Horace Dwight Rochester and a host of family and close friends. A memorial service in her honor was held Dec. 16 at St. Peter Episcopal Church in Morristown.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in the name of Doreen Marcia Cobbs to The Seeing Eye of Morris County and/or St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
