Morristown Native, Temple Founder Dies at 95

Frances Hollander was well-known in Morris County after 95 years' worth of contributions.

Morris County lost a lifelong resident who put her stamp on the area in myriad ways.

Frances Hollander, 95, was born and raised in Morristown, where she graduated high school, according to her obituary. After marrying her childhood sweetheart, Samuel Hollander, the duo set out to change the landscape of Morris County.

The couple owned and operated Stonybrook Day Camp in Randolph for 27 years. Fran, also known as Buddy, supported her husband in founding Temple B’nai Or in Morristown 60 years ago.

In addition to those endeavors, Buddy volunteered at the Community Soup Kitchen in Morristown and was active in the P.G. Chambers Auxiliary for children with disabilities.

Hollander enjoyed music, art, nature, baking and traveling the world, the obituary said. She walked three miles a day and frequented Flanders Valley Golf Course.

She is survived by four daughters, a son, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
