Cornerstone Family Programs and the Nabe Celebrate Black History Month in Morristown

Nearly 200 people gathered at the Morristown AMC Theater to watch a showing of a new film chronicling the life story of one of the legendary leaders of our time.  The movie?  Mandela:  Long Walk to Freedom.  The occasion?  Morristown Neighborhood House and Cornerstone Family Programs’ first celebration of Black History Month.  It was a wonderful way to spend a chilly Saturday morning and learn about Nelson Mandela’s amazing journey from his childhood in a rural village to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa.
“During Black History Month we celebrate and experience the cultural richness of our community; we were pleased to be able to bring this movie to our community,” said Patrice Picard, Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Family Programs.
Morristown Neighborhood House and Cornerstone Family Programs’ next Black History Month community event will feature the New York African Chorus Ensemble on Friday, February 28th , 6:30 - 8:30 PM at Morristown High School, located at 50 Early Street in Morristown. Mike Bethune will be the Master of Ceremonies and Keith Bodden, Chair Armed Forces/Veterans' Affairs Committee, NJ NAACP, will be honored.  Attendees will also enjoy performances by The Kenjex and Bello Lamadieu.  A sampling of foods unique to the African American culture is to be served afterwards. Tickets are available in advance ($20 for adults and $10 for children under 12 and senior citizens) or at the door for ($23/$12).  For tickets or more information, please contact The Neighborhood House Community Development Director Ms. Linda Murphy at 973-538-1229, ext.14.  This is one Black History Month event that you don’t want to miss!
