Accused Rapist's Bail Maintained at $150K

Tyrec Phillips, 19, is one of three men charged with sexually assaulting intoxicated female teenager in 2011.

The only one of three Morristown men charged as an adult with raping an intoxicated female teenager in 2011 had his bail maintained at $150,000 Thursday, according to a Daily Record article.

Tyrec Phillips, 19, who was without an attorney as he appeared from the Morris County jail via videocamera link Thursday, is among a trio of men police say raped a 17-year-old girl last year after giving her a drink that caused her to fall in and out of consciousness. Unlike the other two accused, , Phillips was 18 years old at the time of the alleged incident.

Prosecutors asked the Morris County Superior Court Judge Robert Gilson to maintain the $150,000 bail, citing the seriousness of the charges of aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault, which could carry prison time and registration with police as a sex offender, according to the article.

Morristown Police Det. Richard Lamperti has testified that one of the accused told police the trio had left the Hazel Street residence with the unconscious female and drove to a secluded spot on Monroe Street, near Evergreen Cemetery, where they proceeded to have sex with her.

Phillips, who did not have an attorney for the Thursday hearing, told the judge he is enrolled at County College of Morris and has three jobs, and that he relocated about three years ago from Texas to Morristown, according to the article. A CCM representative noted, however, Phillips had appled for admissions, but had never registered for classes.
