29 Arrests Made, 15 Public Pee-ers Cited During St. Pat's Partying

St. Patrick’s Day revelers know how to have a good time. But when you’ve got tens of thousands of party-loving Paddies in one place enjoying a parade, sometimes a few can get out of hand.

Morristown Police have released a statement on the amount of arrests made during a 21-hour period from the start of Saturday, March 15 to the early morning hours of Sunday, March 16. In that time was the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade down South Street, which draws attendees from throughout northern New Jersey.

Lt. Stuart Greer said 29 arrests were made in addition to 34 violations. On top of that, eight motor vehicle crashes were reported. All reports occurred between 7 a.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday.

The arrests contain the following charges:

• 11 disorderly conduct
• 9 defiant trespassing
• 1 simple assault
• 1 aggravated assault
• 1 obstruction of justice
• 1 creating false public alarm
• 2 warrant arrests
• 2 Driving While Intoxicated
• 1 “other”

The violations were split into two categories:

• 15 urinating in public
• 19 drinking in public/having an open container 

In addition to police activity, there were 36 emergency medical responses needed during the same time period.

• 21 intoxicated persons
• 5 fall victims
• 4 unspecified injuries
• 1 facial laceration
• 1 broken nose
• 1 breathing problem
• 1 nose bleed
• 1 eye injury
• 1 allergic reaction 

There were 27 patients transported to the hospital, Greer said.

Emergency responders from Cedar Knolls, Chester, East Hanover, Madison, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, the Morris County Office of Emergency Management, Morris Minutemen, New Vernon, Pequannock, and Randolph Township all volunteered their time to assist at the parade Saturday. Volunteers from the Morristown Emergency Medical Services coordinated the event.
