Burnt Fuse Box Blamed for Saturday Outage

About 450 JCP&L customers lost power for about an hour-and-a-half on Sept. 1.

A burnt out fuse box on James Street was blamed for about 450 JCP&L customers losing power Saturday evening.

A day before , causing 2,432 customers in Morristown and Morris Township to lose power, a "cutout box" located between Sherwood Drive and Bell Street on James Street caught fire shortly after 6 p.m. on Sept. 1. Four-hundred-fifty-two customers in Morristown and Morris Township were affected, said Peter Johner, area manager of external affairs for Jersey Central Power & Light.

Johner said the cause of the cutout box—which holds fuses—being burnt out was unknown. Power was restored at 7:50 p.m., Johner said.
