Cops: Man Picked Fight While Drinking on the Green

The following arrest information was supplied by the Morristown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Apparently, deciding to pick a fight while drinking beer on is what Washingtons do. So says one of them, according to a police report.

That, according to a police report describing an incident at 11:33 p.m. on May 12, which resulted in the arrest of Robert Washington, 33, of Washington Street. He was charged with disorderly conduct, drinking in public and littering.

Officer Jesse Dickerson responded to an active fight on the Green, where he met with Washington, who told the officer he had been sitting on a bench drinking a beer when he decided he wanted to fight another man sitting near him, according to the report.

Washington then began waving his arms and yelling at officers on the scene that he was "a Washington" and "that's what we do," according to the report.

Dickerson found the beer Washington had been drinking, a 24-ounce can of Steel Reserve, and Washington asked to finish it, according to the report. Dickerson drained the remainder of beer in the can on the sidewalk and asked Washington to dispose of it properly, in response to which, Washington tossed the empty can into the bushes and continued to yell obscenities, according to the report.
