Cops: Man Ran Off With Officer's Cap

The following arrest information was supplied by the Morristown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Lincoln Park man is accused of stealing a police officer's hat off his head and fleeing down South Street before being tackled to the ground by the hat-less cop's partner, according to the  report.

According to the police report, officers Jesse Dickerson and Roberto Rosado were on foot patrol in the area of at about 2 a.m. when a person, later identified as Timothy Blewitt, 20, grabbed Rosado's police cap off his head and ran down South Street toward Market Street on May 20. 

Dickerson ran after Blewitt, identifying himself as an officer and telling him to stop running but Blewitt continued, turning down Market Street and into the 40 Park alleyway, according to the report. Finally, near the rear entrance to Sona Thirteen, Dickerson was able to tackle Blewitt to the ground, according to the report.

Dickerson tried to get Blewitt to put his hands behind his back to be handcuffed but Blewitt refused, eventually being cuffed when Rosado arrived to assist, according to the report. Blewitt suffered some head abrasions during the incident but refused medical treatment, according to the report.

Blewitt was charged with theft, obstruction and resisting arrest. He was advised of his court date and released pending his appearance.
