Second Round of Storms Keep Residents in the Dark

Service restoration expected overnight.

The second round of thunderstorms moved through the area this evening delaying repairs to power lines in Morristown while throwing a few new outages into the mix for good measure.

The dark skies quick winds, flashes of lightning and booms of thunder that rolled through the area on Thursday left their mark as power lines came down near Washington Street forcing the road to close from Atno Avenue to Budd Street according to the Morristown Police.

According to JCP&L around 100 customers were impacted by the Washington Street outage, but near 500 are without power near MacCollough Avenue and Ogden Place. New outages have cropped up along Kahdena, as well as near Ridgedale, Abbett, Lafayette and Columbia.

While the majority of those outages were resolved by the evening rush hour, a new round of storms came into the area shortly after 6:30 p.m.

As of 12:30 a.m. JCP&L was reporting less than 1 percent of customers in Morris Township and 2 percent of customers in Morristown, roughly 175 homes, were without power.

JCP&L officials said that crews are working to restore power as soon as the weather conditions allowed it to be done safely. JCP&L maintained they expected service to be completely restored overnight.
