Drunk Driver Was Nearly Triple Legal Limit, Cops Say

Morristown resident initially stopped for driving without headlights on.

A Washington Avenue resident was nearly three times over the legal limit when she was pulled over for driving without headlights on early Thursday morning, Morristown Police said.

Jessica Stender, 25, of Morristown, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving without headlights and careless driving at about 2 a.m.

According to a report filed by Officer James Krauss, a vehicle was observed driving without its lights on in the area of Morris Street near Spring Street. Near the Morristown Diner, Krauss activated his overhead lights for a motor vehicle stop, ultimately stopping in the lot of Morristown Tire—at Morris and Pine streets—after first striking the curb, according to the report.

Krauss in his report said the driver, identified as Stender, indicated having had "one margarita" during the evening. The officer moved Stender through several Field Sobriety Tests, ultimately determining her to be intoxicated, according to the report.

Once at Morristown Police Department headquarters, Stender provided a breath sample, which recorded a Blood Alcohol Content level of .23 percent, which is nearly triple the legal limit of .08 percent, according to the report.
