DUI Checkpoint Coming to Rt. 206 in Chester

Police will hold overnight campaign as part of national initiative.

Chester Borough police announced Monday it will be taking part in the national Over the Limit, Under Arrest campaign by conducting a driving under the influence checkpoint this month.

From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on June 21 to June 22, police will man a checkpoint on Rt. 206 in the borough near the intersection of Maple Avenue. The checkpoint will be in both the north and southbound lanes during those hours.

“It is the goal of this agency to remove impaired drivers from the busy roadways of both the Borough and the County of Morris in an effort to prevent fatal traffic crashes before they occur,” the department said in a statement.

While Rt. 206 is a state road, it is locally patrolled.

Not drinking doesn't keep you from being subjected to the checkpoint.

Knowing another way to your house does. I find it funny how EVERYONE who posts here is all butthurt that they are "subjected" to these "Checkpoints," yet they still only know ONE WAY HOME. And Chuck, hopefully one day a police officer isn't standing at your door delivering news that a loved one was killed by a drunk driver. Then you would be yelling and screaming "Why didn't you STOP THEM!" Typical

No, I wouldn't say that at all. I’m all for increased diligence in detecting and stopping drunk drivers, and support very stiff penalties when they are caught. However, I am against random checkpoints for ANY reason. They are contrary to a free society, where citizens should be able to travel public roads unmolested.

Isn't it a little counterproductive to warn people as to exactly where the checkpoint will be?

Illegal Search and Seizure, look it up.
