Ex-Morris County Court Officer Accused of Stealing $112K

Scott Forsbrey, 52, of Randolph, allegedly kept funds intended for creditors over a two-year period.

A former Morris County court officer was indicted Thursday on official misconduct and theft charges for taking more than $100,000 in court-ordered judgements intended for creditors, the prosecutor's office said.

Scott Forsbrey, 52, of Randolph, was indicted on two counts of second-degree official misconduct and one count of second-degree theft by failure to make required disposition.

Forsbrey, who was a Morris County special civil part court officer from Nov. 4, 2009 to May 3, 2012, was responsible for collecting funds owed as a result of civil judgements and for forwarding the monies to the litigants, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Forsbrey was able to keep a small percentage of the funds as a commission, the prosecutor's office said. However, an internal audit by the Administrative Office of the Courts determined Forsbrey had taken about $112,000 more than he was able to retain in commissions between January 2010 and May 2012, the prosecutor's office said.

Anyone with information regarding this case can contact Sgt. Steven Murzenski, of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Professional Standards Unit, at 973-285-6200.
