Ex-Town Employee Cleared of Animal Cruelty Files $2M Suit

Thomas Alexander's suit accuses town leaders of civil rights violations, libel, slander and more.

Former Morristown Human Services Director Thomas Alexander, fresh from the July overturning of his animal cruelty conviction, is striking back by suing the town for $2 million, NJ.com reported.

Alexander, 62, was fired from his municipal position after being convicted of animal cruelty in 2012. He appealed the guilty finding and won. On Monday he filed a tort claim claiming that he was wrongfully terminated and maliciously prosecuted because he called Morristown Animal Control for help with a dog he used to own in December of 2011, the article said.

Alexander said his prosecution was political and that he wants to see accountability. In the suit, he named Mayor Timothy Dougherty, Town Attorney Vijayant Pawar, Municipal Prosecutor Robert Rudy III, Health Officer Darlene O'Connell, Animal Control Officer Samantha Judson, Capt. Steven Sarinelli, Lt. Jeffrey Hunker, Sgt. Dixon of the NJSPCA and Rockaway Township Prosecutor Peter King.
