Learn Fire Safety at Morristown FD Open House

Morristown Fire Bureau Open House is this Sunday, April 21 from 12-4 p.m. at the Speedwell Fire station. There will be free hot dogs and popcorn

Morristown firefighters put their life on the line each time they respond to a call in town. This upcoming Sunday, take some time to say thank you by stopping by the fire house. The Morristown fire department will open their doors to the community with food, drinks, activities and information for the whole family.

The Last year was the first open house and drew a large crowd.

“Last year was a huge success with over 500 in attendance,” said  Sean McDonough, a Firefighter/EMT with the department. “We hope to have more people come out this Sunday to see Morris County's oldest Fire Department, to see the station, have some food and drink and have a fun day.”

  • Free hot dogs and popcorn
  • Free Health Screenings by Morristown Medical Center
  • “This year we are also fortunate enough to have Colgate come with their Mobile Dental Bus to give Free dental screenings to Children,” said McDonough.
  • The Morristown / Morris Township Library will have a wonderful presentation about the Morristown Fire Dept. which dates back to 1797, he added.
  • Morristown’s Office of Emergency Management and newly formed CERT team will be on hand to describe what their mission is.
  • “Morristown’s' Independent Hose Company will bring their 1927 Ahrens Fox fire Engine. They have been working tirelessly in restoring it for over five years now!”
  • Morristown’s Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association will be selling Sandy Ground Project shirts and sweatshirts. All the proceeds will go to support the Project. The Sandy Ground Project plans to build 26 playgrounds in the tri-state area to honor and remember the 26 lives lost in the senseless violence in Newtown Conn, and to help rebuild communities ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.
  • Firefighting demonstrations where children can use a charged fire hose
  • Burn Building to help demonstrate to children how to get out of a burning building safely A "Jaws of Life" demonstration.
  • The burn trailer Morristown FD is using will be provided by Flanders Volunteer Fire Department
  • Tours of the station and of the trucks

“We take pride in serving The Town of Morristown and this is just one way that we give back to our community,” said McDonough.

The fire department is made up of 31 career fire fighters and about 15 active  volunteers.
