Seat Belts Prevented Serious Injury in Crash, Officials Say

Two people needed to be extricated from smashed Range Rover on Lafayette Avenue.

An accident near the I-287 south entrance on Lafayette Avenue near Washington Place took well over an hour to clear Monday morning.

Morristown Police issued an alert via the Nixle.com alert service at about 9 a.m. advising drivers to avoid Lafayette Avenue by Washington Place for "a motor vehicle rollover with entrapment." Police, fire and EMS were called to the scene.

The two damaged vehicles—a Range Rover with a teenaged male and a female adult driver, and a Mustang GT—were loaded onto flatbed tow trucks shortly before 10:30 a.m. Acting Fire Chief Robert Flanagan said the passengers in the Range Rover had to extricated from their vehicle, but appeared to be calm during the process, which took about 30 minutes. They were then transported to Morristown Medical Center, he said.
