Man Accused of Selling Heroin While Walking Child, 7, to Morristown School

Alleged drug transaction occurred inside park, report says.

A 24-year-old Morristown man is being held in Morris County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail after police say he took part in a drug deal while walking a child to school.

According to dailyrecord.com, Richard Newton stopped at Cauldwell Playground Wednesday to sell two folds of heroin to Robert Everett. The alleged transaction occurred within the park while Newton had a seven-year-old with him and was en route to school, the report says.

Newton is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, distribution, and distribution within 500 feet of the Manahan Village public housing complex and the playground, the report said.
