'High Quality' Fake License Doesn't Fool Officer, Police Say

33-year-old Morristown man picked up after Automatic License Plate Recognition System flags vehicle.

The Automatic License Plate Recognition System (ALPR) led to the arrest of a 33-year-old Morristown man last Thursday, police said.

According to a report filed by Officer Anthony O’Brien, the ALPR flagged the black Chevy pickup driven by Manuel Dejesus Jiron-Rodriguez on Flagler Street for having expired registration.

After obtaining copies of a license and registration from Jiron-Rodriguez, O’Brien verified the registration had expired Oct. 31 and noted there were discrepancies in the license, the report said.

O’Brien said the license appeared to be a “high quality false document” that he confirmed before placing Jiron-Rodriguez under arrest for obstruction of a motor vehicle investigation, the report said.

According to the report, the truck was impounded and Jiron-Rodriguez was charged with hindering prosecution and was released after his wife provided a Honduran passport verifying his identity.
