Not Guilty Plea for Man Accused of Lying in Lennon Baldwin Case

The man accused of lying about his knowledge regarding the robbery of 15-year-old Lennon Baldwin in the Century 21 parking lot—which preceeded Baldwin's suicide at his Morris Township home later that month—pleaded not guilty to false swearing charges Monday, according to a Star-Ledger article. 

A Morris County grand jury indicted 19-year-old Michael Conway back in October, charging the Morristown resident with false swearing by giving authorities misinformation between April 6 and April 18 after he vowed to tell the truth.

His charges, and those handed down to two others, stemmed from several bullying incidents against Baldwin—first at Morristown High School and later in the department store parking lot. Authorities have argued that the high school freshman's March 28 suicide was a result of those acts.

Since Morris County Prosecutors announced charges against three Morristown men, Conway has been the only one of them publicly named, as he was the only adult at the time of the incidents in March.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office in August, however, issued a statement regarding new weapon possession and drug paraphernalia charges against several men including Conway—which ultimately took out his chance of receiving Pre-Trial Intervention, a program to dismiss cases for first-time offenders. That statement noted the office's concern over "the new allegations against Michael Conway and J'Money Wright Baxter."

Ultimately, the two still publicly-unidentified men took plea deals at the end of July, resulting in one-year probation sentences.

Conway is scheduled to again appear in Morris County Superior Court in Morristown on Jan. 7.
