Morris Township PD Investigates 3 Home Burglaries

Detectives from the Morris Township Police Department are investigating three residential burglaries. The single family homes were burglarized on Thursday, April 4 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Western Avenue, Brigade Hill Road and Columbia Road.

Police say that preliminary reports indicate all three homes were entered through unlocked doors or windows with the target being valuables from the master bedroom. The Morris County Sheriff’s K9 and Crime Scene Services assisted in the investigation. 

Anyone with information on this matter or who may have seen something suspicious in the area is asked to contact the Morris Township Detective Bureau at 973-326-7480. 

Residents are reminded to always leave their home looking like it’s occupied. Criminals will almost always look for the easiest possible targets. While no one can guarantee 100 percent that no one will break into your home, these tips will definitely reduce the likelihood significantly, according to police.

Police gave the following suggestions for home owners to turn your house from a target into something a predator will not want to even attempt breaking into:

• keeping exterior lights on at night
• making sure there are not tall bushes that someone can hide behind
• bringing in newspapers and garbage cans
• keeping all of your doors (including garage doors) locked
• installing safety windows
