Morristown Burglar to Spend 7 Years in Prison

Eugene Hayes sentenced Friday after admitting three break-ins.

A Morristown man will spend seven years in prison after pleading guilty to three burglaries in Morristown and Morris Township.

Eugene Hayes, 41, was sentenced Friday on his guilty pleas to three counts of third-degree burglary and one count of third-degree receiving stolen property, acting Morris Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp said in a release.

Hayes pleaded guilty June 5 to burglarizing a home on Olyphant Drive in Morristown on Oct. 17, 2010, as well as to burglarizing a 2003 Ford Focus on May 27, 2011. He also admitted burglarizing the Yummy Yummy restaurant on Speedwell Avenue in Morris Township on May 27, 2011.

Hayes also admitted receiving stolen jewelry in Morristown on Oct. 8, 2010, Knapp said.

Hayes' bid for entry into Drug Court was denied upon his seven-year sentence to state prison.
