Morristown Man Admits Trying to Rob Bank

John Gunton, 62, was caught on camera attempting robbery at Bank of America in April.

A Morristown man admitted in court Thursday he tried to steal money from a bank in April, according to an article in The Star-Ledger.

John Gunton, 62, pleaded guilty in Morris County Superior Court Sept. 13 to a charge of attempted theft, according to the article. Gunton admitted in court he went to the South Street branch of in April and asked a teller for $7,000, saying, “this is a robbery,” according to the article.

Gunton then fled on foot before obtaining any money, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office .

Gunton, after fleeing New Jersey, was located in Queens, NY. New York Police department officers had arrested him on charges of petty theft, and then discovered he was wanted in Morristown.
