Daytime Burglaries Hit Morristown Neighborhood

Series of break-ins occurred Monday afternoon on James Street and Erskine Drive.

The Morristown Police are reminding residents to secure their belongings and lock their doors and windows after a series of burglaries Monday on James Street and Erskine Drive.

According to Capt. Steven Sarinelli, the homes were most likely entered between 3 and 5 p.m. Entry was gained through unlocked doors or forced through locked or rear sliding doors, Sarinelli said.

No one was home at the time of any of the burglaries. Police declined to comment how many incidents took place.

Police searched the area, but were unsuccessful finding anyone and Morris County Sheriff’s Office CIS Unit responded to process the scene, Sarinelli said.

Residents are encouraged to lock windows and doors when leaving their homes even for short periods of time.

"In one case, the homeowner was gone approximately one hour," Sarinelli said.

Officials ask residents report any person or activity that seem to be suspicious to the Morristown Police immediately. The investigation is ongoing, and police did not specify the number of homes hit. Investigators also declined to comment on whether these burglaries are connected to the commercial burglary that same day at Morristown's Melt Factory.

Anyone with information or who witnessed anything suspicious can contact the Investigative Unit of the Morristown Police Department at 973-292-6737.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Morris County Crime Stoppers at 973-COP-CALL. Residents can obtain burglary crime prevention information on the Town of Morristown web site at www.townofmorristown.org.
