Nursing Home Fire Doused, Scene Cleared

Eight members of building staff treated for smoke inhalation.

A fire at the Morris Hill Center Nursing Home at 77 Madison Ave. has been extinguished and the scene has been cleared, according to Fire Bureau Capt. Jon Prauthauser.

Fire units were on the scene for approximately 45 minutes as building staff quickly doused the fire, determined to have been an electrical fire in one of the center’s bathrooms, and evacuated building tenants largely on their own.

“The staff did a wonderful job evacuating patients out of the wing,” Prauthauser said.

Prauthauser also noted that visibility was greatly reduced in the hallways near the source of the fire, and that eight members of facility staff were transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Representatives from the Morristown Police Dept. could not be reached for comment on the incident.
