Mother Saves Child Before Being Hit by Taxi

Collision on MLK Avenue under investigation.

A woman was struck by a taxi on MLK Avenue Monday after pushing a child out of harm's way.

Bystanders said a mother was crossing the street with her child in a stroller when a taxi hit her. Right before she was hit, she pushed the stroller to save the child, who was not hurt. She and her child were brought to the hospital.

"A taxi came by and hit a lady,” said Paige Portis, whose friend witnessed the accident. She added that the the mother was accompanied by a baby in a stroller.

“The baby was saved because (the mother pushed it out of the way). She was hit by the car and went flying in the air. She was unconscious and they took her to the hospital."

Capt. Steven Sarinelli of the Morristown Police Department said that the collision is still under investigation, and more details will be released later. He added that police responded to the call at 6:56 p.m.

The condition of the mother is unknown at this time.

The collision closed MLK Avenue from Willow Street to Abbett Avenue.
