Pedestrian Struck By Car While in Crosswalk, Cops Say

Morris Twp. woman struck by Morristown driver, taken to hospital Monday, police report.

A Morris Township woman was struck by a car while walking in a crosswalk in Morristown, sending her to the hospital, according to Morristown Police.

Just after noon on Monday, police responded to Spring Street near the intersection of Martin Luther King Avenue, Lt. Stuart Greer said. Officer Don Chaudruc found Belia Escobar-Monterruso, 51, had been crossing Spring Street when she was hit by a 2012 Hyundai, Greer said.

The vehicle was being driven by Elizabeth Callow, 24, who said she was turning onto Spring Street in the eastbound direction and didn’t see Escobar-Monterruso until it was too late, Greer said.

After being hit, Escobar-Monterruso complained of pain and was taken to Morristown Medical Center as a precaution, Greer said. Callow was given a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
