Update: Saturated Ground Likely Caused Tree to Fall

Portion of road closed, JCP&L working on clearing mess.

Mayor Tim Dougherty said a ground saturated by an abnormally wet season caused a Locust tree to be uprooted on Spring Street, causing a section of the road to be closed Saturday night.

Morristown Police issued an alert via the Nixle.com alert service shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday that Spring Street between Water Street and Morris Street had been closed due to a large tree falling and damaging a utility pole.

JCP&L was on the scene at about 10:20 p.m. working to remove the tree from the utility pole, where it was hanging from one of the wires. The tree had not fallen across the street and no other damage was reported.
