Police: Man Tried to Break Into Hazel Street Residence

This information was obtained from the Morristown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Morristown Police arrested and charged a man with trespassing, stalking, resisting arrest and hindering apprehension after they received a call that someone was trying to break into a Hazel Street residence on Aug. 5, police said.

Yonis Ulloa, 37, had been trying to break into an apartment through a window when several residents heard the noise caused by the attempt, according to police reports. One witness shouted through the door, prompting Ulloa to run, as the witness ran after Ulloa while calling 911, according to the reports.

When Officer Brian LaBarre arrived on the scene, a witness from the apartment pointed to a minivan on the road, according to the reports. LaBarre searched inside the van for the suspect, ultimately finding him crouching behind the front passenger tire, the reports said.

LaBarre shouted "Police!" then, "Show me your hands!" as Ulloa began to crawl toward the officer, police said. LaBarre then shouted "Hands, immediately!" in Spanish, but Ulloa continued toward the officer, according to the police reports.

Ulloa attempted to run, but LaBarre, with assistance from Officer Richard Riley, was able to finally restrain Ulloa after several minutes, according to the reports.

A witness at the scene told police that the witness and Ulloa had both lived at a Clinton Street residence in spring 2010, and that Ulloa had begun to harass and follow her at that time, according to the reports.

Ulloa was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.
