Police: Teen Tried to Rob Woman With Box Cutter

The following arrest information was supplied by the Morristown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Morristown Police arrested a Morristown teen on July 27, charging him with robbing a woman on Madison Street.

Daniel Godfrey, 19, was arrested and charged with armed robbery; possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Police said he approached a woman as she was walking on Madison Street near South Street. Then Godfrey produced "a box cutter style knife" and demanded her money, police said.

The woman fought back, but the Godfrey managed to take about $50 from her before running from the area, according to police reports. The woman was not injured and contacted police via 911, police said.

Officer Scott Weaver interviewed the woman and detectives were able to further the investigation, according to the report, which ultimately lead to the arrest.

Godfrey was transported to the Morris County Jail in default of $250,000 bail, according to police. The Morristown Police Department was assisted in this matter by the Morris Township, Dover and Rockaway Township Police Departments.

Anyone with additional information or who may witnessed this incident is encouraged to call Det. Thomas Loia of the Morristown Police Department at 973-292-6737.

Very sad that a young person has to rob another. He will do some jail rime. Very sad for the fear this creates and for the idea that stealing might be ok. Good to see that the person fought back. Now if all law abiding residents were allowed to carry guns the crime rate would drop.
