Recent DWI Arrests in Morristown

The following arrest information was supplied by the Morristown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Morristown police recently charged the following people with driving while intoxicated and related offenses:

  • Police arrested and charged Michael Armellino, 25, of Lebanon at 1:12 a.m. on Nov. 6 with driving under the influence, reckless driving and failure to obey a police officer who was directing traffic. While in front of on Morris Street, police saw a man crossing the street without using the crosswalk, according to a police incident report. When an officer called to the man crossing the street, a white Hyundai vehicle on Morris Street swerved in the direction of the unidentified man and stopped within four feet, according to the report. Police then attempted to pull over the Hyundai, later determined to be driven by Armellino, but he did not pull over until several roads later, according to the report. When asked why he swerved in the direction of the man crossing the street, Armellino said, "I wasn't going to hit him. It's just my biggest pet peeve when people cross in front of my car with(out) using a crosswalk," according to the report. He was later released into the custody of a relative.
  • Police arrested and charged Douglas Bell, 21, of Denville with driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving and failure to provide proof of registration at 1:53 a.m. on Nov. 4. Police say they saw Bell spinning his tires in place for about five seconds on DeHart Street before turning onto Maple Avenue and then Miller Road, where they stopped his vehicle. Once at the police station, Bell registered a blood alcohol level of .24 percent, triple the legal limit in New Jersey, according to a police incident report. Bell had begun making suicidal statements in the police car on the way to the station, so was called to take him to for evaluation, according to the report. Bell continued to yell at and be antagonistic to police and, later, hospital staff, according to the report.
  • Police arrested and charged Francis X. O'Brien, 44, of Morris Township with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a breathalyzer, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and careless driving at 1:03 a.m. on Oct. 28. Police say they saw O'Brien exit the Schulyer Place parking deck, turning right onto the one-way street and drive for about 100 feet before stopping and rapidly performing a K-turn. He was later released into the custody of a family member.
  • Police arrested and charged Aileen Alqueza, 33, of Hopatcong with driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on a one-way street at 1:10 a.m. on Oct. 28. Police were already conducting a traffic stop on Schuyler Place when Alqueza's vehicle turned from Ann Street onto Schuyler in the wrong direction, according to a police incident report. Alqueza said she had not been in Morristown in a long time, and had gotten confused of where she was because of the police lights, according to the  report.
  • Police arrested and charged Andrew Papis, 19, of Jackson, with underage possession of alcohol, hindering apprehension and presenting a false government document at 1:46 a.m. on Oct. 28. Police say they saw Papis, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, exit on DeHart Street with an open bottle of beer. When confronted about his age, Papis showed police what later was identified as a false identification, according to a police incident report. When asked his age by police, Papis said, "21, no wait, 20," according to the report. The only other identification he had on him was a Fairleigh Dickinson University ID, which did not list a date of birth, according to the report.
