Roof Collapse Closes Market, Bank Streets Thursday Morning

Weight of piled snow, age of building cited as factors; no injuries reported.

Part of the roof on a commercial building on Market Street collapsed Thursday morning due to the weight of snow, Morristown Police said.

At 10:28 a.m. police received a report of a partial roof collapse at 35 Market Street, Lt. Stuart Greer said. Morristown Police and fire responded to the scene and found the building was vacant at the time, and no injuries were reported, Greer said.

An initial assessment showed a combination of the piled snow’s weight and age of the building led to the roof’s collapse, Greer said. A structural engineer was requested to further assess the building’s integrity.
