Scholarships Given to Kids of First Responders

200 Club of Morris County holds annual awards ceremony for college-bound students.

Twenty-five high school seniors who have parents serving as first responders were awarded scholarships recently by the 200 Club of Morris County.

Since 1982, children of police, fire and emergency medical services providers have been awarded scholarships to help buffer the cost of higher education, according to Doug Fenichel of APR.

“Our police officers, firefighters and EMS responders put their lives on the line every day,” said 200 Club president Jack C. Van Orden Jr. at the awards dinner. “These are not jobs that are going to make anybody rich. In fact, many firefighters and EMTs are volunteers. Helping them meet the financial challenge of educating their children is one way of saying thank you.”
