Sober Drivers = Happy Cops

While drivers should always know not to drink and drive, that message will be made even clearer this month, as will be conducting "sobriety checkpoints" from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Dec. 15.

The press release, from the Morristown Police Department, is below:

As part of the national “Drunk Driving Enforcement Program” to stop drunk driving, officers from the Morristown Police Department will be conducting sobriety checkpoints ... Thursday, Dec. 15, from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. Through the use of a grant provided by the N.J. Division of Highway Traffic Safety, officers will be assigned to sobriety checkpoints in order to identify and arrest motorists who are driving while intoxicated. The goal is to discourage people from driving impaired. It is also intended to promote awareness and to keep our roadways safe for the citizens of Morristown throughout the holiday season.

Motorists who are not impaired can expect only short delays while passing through the checkpoint.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to adhere to two basic principles when consuming alcohol. Do not drink and drive and always use a designated driver. Following these simple principles could save your life or the life of someone you love.

If you encounter a suspected impaired driver, call 911 and be prepared to give a description of the vehicle, location and direction of travel.
