$220K Grant Awarded to Morristown for Washington Street Streetscape Project

Some much needed funding is coming to Morristown to help repair a major artery in town, as the Washington Street Streetscape Project received a $220,000 grant from the state this week.

The grant was one of the largest amounts awarded in Morris County under Governor Chris Christie’s $81.6 million in funds directed toward municipal aid, transit village, local bikeway, and safe streets to transit projects. 

In total, 391 local aid grants were awarded to New Jersey towns to “help municipalities advance a variety of transportation projects without burdening local property taxpayers,” said a statement from the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Some 377 municipalities competed for $78.6 million in municipal aid grants, the statement said, while 14 more grants worth $3 million were awarded under the transit village, local bikeway, and safe streets to transit programs.

Throughout the state, 653 applications worth $255 million in work were submitted. Thirty Morris County towns received a total of $5,049,145 in grants, the DOT said.
