Council Meeting Cancelled, Redevelopment Meeting Scheduled

Special Redevelopment Meeting set for 7 p.m., Nov. 29.

Were you excited to attend the next Town Council meeting on Nov. 29? Well, we have some bad news.

That meeting has been cancelled. But, fear not. There still will be a meeting on that night, and it, too will feature the members of Town Council.

The town issued a notice on Wednesday announcing the cancellation of the council meeting, to be replaced with a special Redevelopment Meeting, set for 7 p.m. in council chambers at . In Morristown, the members of Town Council are also the redevelopment agency.

While an agenda has yet to be issued for the meeting, the only topic of late has been the Speedwell Redevelopment Plan. The plan, which has been discussed in various forms for nearly a decade, was finally approved by the council in a 5-2 vote in October. Ward 3 councilwoman Raline Smith-Reid and outgoing Ward 2 councilman James E. Smith were the only descenting votes. expressed their desire to have the affordable housing component at as high a percentage as possible. Smith-Reid made a motion to increase the figure from 10 percent to 12.5 percent, in line with the municipal ordinance, despite the fact that Richard Murphy, with Trammel Crow, the developer, said the project would no longer be viable beyond 10 percent.
