Council to Discuss Liquor License Transfer Tuesday

You might want to bring a large coffee to Tuesday night's Town Council meeting, as a number of issues will be discussed. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at .

On the agenda (a complete copy of which is included with this post):

  1. Futbolandia #2: A building at 4 Early St. is presently unoccupied. However, repair work has begun there in anticipation of a "person-to-person and place-to-place" transfer of an "in-pocket" liquor license to "Uncle Baxter LLC" for the property, which is currently known as Futbolandia #2 (the original is located just a block away on Speedwell Avenue). The LLC for the liquor license is owned by a member of the Walsh family, which owns several bars and restaurants in town, including , and . It was noted on Monday by Morris School District Board of Education member Terri Murphy that the property is about 800 yards away from . She encouraged people at the Monday meeting, if they were concerned about the transfer, to either attend the council meeting or write the Town Council a letter.
  2. Executive Budget Introduction: Morristown's Fiscal Year 2012 Executive Budget will be introduced for a Town Council vote at the meeting. .
  3. Traffic Signal Upgrades: A resolution of an agreement between Morristown and the county to provide signal upgrades to the intersection of Morris Street and Elm Street/Lackawanna Place is on the agenda. This would, according to the agenda, "expedite the safe movement of traffic." The estimated cost of the project is $441,820, $220,211 of which is being footed by Morris County.
  4. Town Repairs: A resolution on the agenda, if approved, would award P.A. Contractors Inc. a $266,726 contract for curb, sidewalk and drainage repairs on various streets in town.
  5. Police Hires, Honors: The newest member of Morristown's Finest, officer Eddy Pichardo, will be sworn in at the meeting. Also, two current officers will be honored–Anthony O'Brien for having the most DWI's in 2011 for Morris County, and Keith Hudson for "conduct above and beyond normal duty."
